Reflection on Evidence-Based Programming to Prevent Violence Against Children in East Africa—Kisumu, Kenya
We have started our convening in Kisumu, Kenya, to share our experience on the approaches, tools, and methodologies we use to prevent violence against children. Elimu Mwangaza is among the organizations from Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda that have come together to learn and reflect on our child-centred approach. This will include what we have tested on the ground through working with children and schools in Moshi Urban and Moshi Rural, Kilimanjaro.
The child-centred approach will be shared by Michael Reuben Ntibikema, the Executive Director for Elimu Mwangaza, Tanzania. A child-centred approach encourages children to take learning into their own hands, as opposed to being directed or prompted by an adult. Children take responsibility for making choices about what they will learn and explore.
The approach will cover the experience of engaging children and how we put them at the centre of our interventions. More specifically, we will share what we are doing through the Children’s Rights Club, including our achievements, lessons learned, and challenges, and how we engage schools and the government to work together to address violence against children.
The convening is organized by Impact and Innovative Development Centre (IIDC), an organization based in Uganda and Investing in Children and Society(ISC SP), Kenya.
We are excited to be part of this learning and reflection meeting in Kisumu, Kenya
